Output
Three high-volume products at Harbor & Pine had margins below 10%, including one loss, over June 3 through August 31, 2026. Returns account for most of the reduction.
Here, high volume means at least 200 units sold, and low margin means below 10% of net revenue. All amounts are USD.
| Product | Units sold | Gross sales | Discounts | Return refunds | Net revenue | Cost of goods | Profit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cascade Merino Crew | 200 | $23,600 | $2,360 | $14,160 | $7,080 | $8,200 | -$1,120 | -15.8% |
| Field Notes Canvas Tote | 300 | $18,600 | $1,860 | $11,160 | $5,580 | $5,340 | $240 | 4.3% |
| Basalt Enamel Mug | 500 | $13,000 | $2,600 | $6,500 | $3,900 | $3,650 | $250 | 6.4% |
Gross sales use unit prices of $118, $62, and $26. Unit costs are $41, $17.80, and $7.30. Net revenue subtracts discounts and refunds, with refunds measured after discounts to avoid double counting.
Costs were available for all three. No returned-inventory cost recovery was recorded, so these estimates retain the original cost of goods. Verify return condition and restocking records before changing prices. Shipping, processing fees, and overhead are excluded, so this is product margin, not final business profit.
Automation steps. The agent follows these 3 steps each time it runs, using your connected store.
- 1
Calculate product margins for my store over the last 90 days, including cost of goods where available, discounts, and returns.
- 2
Find products with high sales volume but low or negative margins.
- 3
Explain the costs or adjustments that account for each result.
Adjust the automation in Chat
Run this automation and tell the agent what to do differently. Ask it to schedule that version if you want the changes in future runs.
- Flag margins below 20% on products selling at least 100 units.
- Separate returned items that were restocked from write-offs.
- Compare margins by product variant.
Fieldwork emails the scheduled report. Each email links to the full run as a conversation in Fieldwork. The automation asks the agent to keep a log in your knowledge base and read it before each run to check what has changed.
Adjustable schedule
Choose how often it runs at setup, from hourly to monthly. Ask in Fieldwork chat for a custom schedule and timezone.
Only useful reports
When nothing needs attention, the run skips the email. When there are findings, you get a report with a link to the full conversation.
Read-only access
The agent reads your store without changing the source. It can keep notes and a run log in your Fieldwork knowledge base.
This automation reads your store. Connect Shopify, BigCommerce, or WooCommerce to Fieldwork. The automation uses whichever you connect.

- Will it change prices or create drafts?
- Scheduled runs have read-only store access and cannot change prices or inventory. This report does not create message drafts.
- Can I change the margin thresholds?
- Ask in chat for different margin thresholds, sales-volume cutoffs, or cost assumptions. Ask to schedule that adjusted version for future reports.
- How will I receive the report?
- Scheduled reports arrive by email with a link to the full conversation. When nothing needs attention, no email or push notification is sent.
